  • Remember that stitch problems are not always tension issues.
  • Rethread your machine and clean it before deciding to change the tension.
  • Write down the tension setting you started at before you change it.

Which way to adjust sewing machine tension

If you’ve watched the video above you’ll be able to logically remember:

  • Bumps/loops on the bottom side of seam – raise the tension (to a bigger number)
  • Bumps on top side of seam – lower the tension – lower the tension (to a smaller number)
